Chicago Avenue Bridge Closed For Weekend

Bridge closed as crews make structural improvements to the 99-year-old bridge

Heads up weekend commuters: You won't be able to drive across the Chicago Avenue Bridge through Sunday.

The bridge closes at 10 p.m. Friday and won't open again until 5 a.m. Monday.

The Chicago Department of Transportation said crews will make structural improvements to the 99-year-old bridge.

Pedestrians can still cross the bridge on the south sidewalk, but all vehicles will be rerouted around the bridge via Halsted, Division, Orleans and Larrabee streets.

The maintenance project costs about $540,000, according to CDOT, and is expected to be complete by April 25
