Chicago Hotspot Announces Recession Buster Night

Crobar to Offer $1 Drinks on Friday

We all know the economy is in the dumps, but one Chicago nightclub is doing something about it, if only for one night.

Crobar nightclub is offering $1 drinks all night on Friday. In addition to the dirt cheap drinks, the club will also blast $2,000 in cash into the air in the main room at 1 a.m.

So is it just a gimmick? Gustavo Espinosa, Crobar's marketing manager, said it's a customer appreciation night, thanking his regulars for supporting the club in these tough economic times. In fact, the ads promoting the special night suggest raising a middle finger toward the recession, so to speak.

"People are still coming, but obviously there's a bit of hesitation with budgets and buying drinks, so this is our way of saying thanks," Espinosa said.

Espinosa said many club-goers who used to hang out three or four nights a week are cutting back to one or two.

"I think it's going on nationwide, from nightclubs to restaurants, to there's no better way to show that you appreciate people than helping them in this fiscally tight time," Espinosa said.
