Cubs push back Friday first pitch due to forecast originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
For the second time this week, Mother Nature has impacted the start time for a Cubs game.
Friday’s Pirates-Cubs game at Wrigley Field — originally scheduled for a 1:20 p.m. first pitch — has been pushed back to 7:05 due to rain in the afternoon forecast.
Gates will open at 5:35 p.m., the team said.
First pitch for Wednesday’s Rays-Cubs series finale was moved up 70 minutes due to rain in the forecast. The game was called after 5 1/2 innings due to rain, with the Rays winning 8-2.
Pittsburgh won the opener of this weekend’s four-game series Thursday 4-3.
Drew Smyly is the Cubs’ probable starter, and ex-Cub José Quintana is slated to take the mound for the Pirates on Friday.
Smyly has not allowed a run in two starts (9 2/3 innings) this season. He allowed three hits in five shutout innings against the Pirates April 12 in his season debut.
