While Chicago Cubs fans who attend games at Wrigley Field talk about the park’s atmosphere, the ivy, and the hand-operated scoreboard in center field, there is another fixture at games that is as ubiquitous in Wrigleyville as any other.
That fixture is Cubs superfan Ronnie Woo-Woo Wickers, who has attended over 3,000 Cubs games over the past half century (and survived several reports of his own demise). In honor of his constant presence as the team’s primary cheerleader, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum has announced that they will produce a limited run of 5,000 Woo-Woo talking bobbleheads for the holiday season.
“This is a great honor to have a bobblehead of me made by two long-time fans,” Wickers said in a statement.
The bobblehead will feature Wickers wearing his signature “Woo-Woo” jersey, and will feature his famous chants for fans looking for a piece of Wrigley during the long, cold Chicago winter. The bobbleheads are available for presale now, and cost $20 each.
There is a charitable component to the deal as well, with $1 from each bobblehead sale going to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, which is located in Kansas City. “Through the sales of my bobblehead, I am honoring my late friend and legend Buck O’Neil, who was the person who made the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum a reality,” Wickers said of the decision to donate money to the cause.
The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum will open its doors in 2016 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
