Dan Vogelbach Goes Yard Twice as Mariners Torch White Sox

Vogelbach drove in six RBI and hit his second and third home runs of the series

The Chicago White Sox won’t be sad to see Dan Vogelbach leave town, as the slugger blasted two more home runs and drove in six RBI in a Seattle Mariners win on the South Side Sunday afternoon.

Vogelbach, the former Cubs prospect, also hit a home run in Friday’s game against the South Siders, and he was instrumental in a blowout victory for Seattle in Sunday’s rubber match between the two clubs.

Edwin Encarnacion also had a big day for the Mariners, driving in four runs and collecting three hits, and former White Sox catcher Omar Narvaez also had an RBI and a run scored against his former team.

For the White Sox, they continued to get strong hitting out of Tim Anderson, who went 4-for-5 in the game, and hit his third home run of the young season in the losing effort. Adam Engel also hit his first home run of the season, but it wasn’t enough as the White Sox dropped to 3-5 on the season.

The White Sox pitching had a rough afternoon, as Ivan Nova was shelled for seven hits and seven runs, all of which were earned. Ryan Burr and Caleb Frare both gave up a pair of earned runs, and Alex Colome gave up a home run in one inning of relief.

The Mariners jumped out to a big league in the third inning, as they scored six runs and built up a 7-1 advantage. They added four more runs in the fourth and fifth innings, as Encarnacion and Vogelbach both hit two-run home runs to make it an 11-2 game. The White Sox added three runs in the seventh inning to make the game close, but the Mariners’ bullpen was able to limit the damage and cruised to the victory.

The White Sox will next take the field on Monday afternoon when they welcome the Tampa Bay Rays to the South Side.
