The Chicago White Sox have made a free agent signing behind the plate, as they’ve reportedly inked catcher James McCann to a one-year contract.
McCann, who spent the first five seasons of his career with the Detroit Tigers, will be paid $2.5 million for the season pending a physical, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
Yahoo’s Jeff Passan and The Atheltic’s James Fegan confirmed that McCann’s deal is done pending a physical.
In 427 at-bats last season, McCann hit eight home runs and drove in 39 RBI for the Tigers. He has 40 home runs in his big league career, and he will likely be a back-up for starting catcher Welington Castillo.
