Forrest Griffin Expects to Return to UFC Octagon This Summer

Contradicting yesterday's report that former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin would miss most or all of 2009 with a hand injury, there's much better news for Griffin from a different source.

MMA Weekly reports that the information in the British newspaper The Sun was incorrect, and in reality Griffin expects to return from his hand injury this summer. I join Kid Nate at Bloody Elbow and Shawn Schatzle at Fight Linker in thinking MMA Weekly is more reliable in its reporting than The Sun, so I expect to see Griffin in the Octagon in the next six or seven months.

I still have no idea who Griffin will fight, though. I assume Rampage Jackson will challenge Rashad Evans for the light heavyweight belt, and that Griffin will need at least one impressive win before he gets another title shot. So who will Griffin get this summer? I'm thinking the Lyoto Machida-Thiago Silva winner would be a good opponent for him. Let's pencil that in for August.
