Conway Farms Golf Club To Host BMW Championship

Conway Farms Golf Club will host the first BMW Champion Playoffs Sept. 9-15

The PGA Tour is stepping up to the tee in Chicago's suburbs.

Conway Farms Golf Club for the first time will host the BMW Championship PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedExCup from Sept. 9-15. The top 70 golf athletes participating in the third leg of the playoffs will compete for a chance to win $8 million in prize money and $1.4 million for the champion.

For area golf fans this is an important relocation from Cog Hill in Lemont, which has hosted all but one championship tournament since 1991. The last time the championship was in the North Shore area was in 1972 at Northfield’s Sunset Ridge.

“I feel like it offers one of the best all-around tests of golf in the Chicago area and will be a course that my fellow pros really enjoy,” accomplished golfer and member Luke Donald said.  “For a relatively young golf course, Conway Farms has quickly become a prestigious club, and because it provides such a different test every time you play it, is sure to make the BMW Championship a thrilling event for players and fans alike.”

The Conway Farms course rests on 209-acres and is designed around the theme of Scottish links golf traditions. The course previously underwent $600,000 of preparation design for the USGA’s Mid-Amateur Championship last August.

Single-use tournament round tickets cost $40, single-use practice round day tickets cost $10, and a weekly badge costs $100. There will be no refunds and re-entry is not permitted without a new ticket.

The club will have designated areas for mobile device use and cell phones must remain on silent mode at all times. During the competition photography, video and audio recording is prohibited. Cameras can be used during practice rounds that will take place Monday-Wednesday.

Other prohibited items include TV, hand held games, MP3 players and IPODS, outside food, beverages backpacks and coolers, bikes ladders, banners, metal spiked golf shoes and pets.

Metal detector checks are required of each person and prohibited items must be checked in at the tech check or returned to the car.

Autographs can be given during practice rounds at players’ conveniences.
The best places to request autographs are the practice putting green and driving range areas.

The winner will be presented with the J.K. Wadley Trophy at the conclusion of the tournament. Over 2,000 volunteers will be helping out during the duration of the event.

Brandt Snedeker won the FedExCup in 2012.
