Cupcakes apparently played a role in the Obama campaign since the then-candidate presented newsman Harry Smith with a cupcake for his birthday during an interview.
The cupcake theme was repeated throughout the campaign, with supporters having made cupcakes and other sweets with Obama's slogans, campaign themes and decorated with the campaign colors.
More recently, a Buffalo, NY, woman put together a sweet salute to President-elect Barack Obama. The woman whipped up a tantalizing tribute, creating a likeness of Obama composed entirely of cupcakes.

It took 1200 of the small sweets to create the portrait. It's not known how many people it took to eat it.
