Prescription painkillers were found in Prince's possession when he died and in his Minneapolis home, federal law enforcement officials told NBC News. The officials have yet to say what role, if any, those medications may have played in his death.
The officials said Wednesday that the county sheriff investigating Prince's death has asked for help from the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The DEA's role, officials say, will be to determine such things as where the medications came from, and what prescriptions Prince had obtained.

Some of Prince's friends have said the musician took the painkiller Percocet to relieve pain in his hips — the result of years of jumping during performances. An autopsy was performed last week, but it may take weeks before the cause of his death would be disclosed.
