Florida’s new Gov. Ron DeSantis will be getting a new ride to allow him to travel across the state, an airplane that was once used as a drug plane before it was seized by officials.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement took control of the plane and upgraded it to serve the office of the governor. DeSantis says it’s needed because the agency has the responsibility to protect the governor and provide transportation.
“That is not going to be like the old state planes where the cabinet and other people could do it,” DeSantis said in explaining its use would just be limited to his office.

The state’s original fleet of planes was sold off by former Gov. Rick Scott shortly after he took office in 2011, in part because Scott had his own private plane to use.
Officials are looking into options for transporting other cabinet members, who traditionally drove by car during the Scott administration across a state that extends over 800 miles between Pensacola and Key West.
