A teenager was shot while sitting in his car after dropping off his prom date, family members said.

Los Angeles police received a call about 4 a.m. Sunday regarding a car-to-car shooting on Mayall Street, just east of Corbin Avenue, in Northridge.

Police said the 19-year-old victim was struck four times.

The teen, identified by family members as Julian Archer, continued to drive about 50 yards after being shot and eventually crashed into a tree, neighbors said.

"I was asleep and all of a sudden I hear something that sounded like someone hitting a pipe. It was like, 'Pop,' it was scary," said neighbor Magda Ezouz.

Archer was taken to a hospital, where he underwent a four-hour surgery and was in critical condition, family members said.

Archer's father told NBC4 that the teen was struck in his neck, shoulder and abdomen.

The shooting did not appear to be gang-related, police said.

Archer's father said the teen, a student at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, was with his girlfriend at her prom at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley before the shooting.
