Woman Killed in Rollover Crash on Dan Ryan Expressway

A woman was killed in a rollover crash Sunday morning on the Dan Ryan Expressway on Chicago's South Side, according to police.

Around 9:35 a.m., a green 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed in the express lanes of I-94 when it veered from the far left lane into the middle lane, Illinois State Police said in a release.

The Trailblazer struck the driver’s side of a red Cadillac CTS, then veered back into the far left lane and struck the concrete median. It then rolled over onto its passenger side, according to police.

The driver of the Trailblazer was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected in the rollover, police said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

She was later identified as 52-year-old Brenda Whitehead, of the 1800 block of North Luna Avenue in Chicago, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The two people inside the Cadillac, a 55-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman, both from Montana, refused medical attention at the scene.

All southbound I-94 express lanes beginning at Cermak Road remained closed after the crash for several hours.
