A high wind warning has expired for northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, but not before some eye-popping wind gusts struck the region.
As of 8 p.m. Wednesday, the highest-reported wind gust was recorded at Valparaiso’s airport. A wind gust clocked in at 66 miles per hour at the airport, according to the National Weather Service, and was one of at least five wind gusts that exceeded the 60 mph threshold.
Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport recorded a wind gust of 61 mph on Wednesday, according to the weather service. The Harrison-Dever Crib, located approximately three miles off the shores of Chicago, clocked a wind gust of 64 mph.
Michigan City in northwest Indiana recorded a gust of 61 mph, and Peru Airport, located in LaSalle County, registered a 63 mph wind gust.
