U of Illinois Jumps 33 Spots in “Top Colleges” Rankings

12 metrics include post-graduate job success and salary as well as debt

The University of Illinois has jumped 33 spots in Forbes Magazine's ranking of "America's Top Colleges."

That puts Illinois at No. 53 on this year's list. On the list of public colleges, it's No. 10, ahead of Wisconsin, Texas, Penn State and Indiana.

The magazine said its rankings are based on a student's return on investment. The 12 metrics include post-graduate job success and salary as well as debt.

Illinois spokeswoman Robin Kaler said it's nice to be recognized in such rankings but the university has its own criteria for measuring its performance.

Kaler said the university understands students pay attention to magazine rankings but said it's better for prospective students to visit the campus and decide for themselves.
