Two Arrested After Police Find Dogs Locked in Trunk

The men were each charged with one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty

Two people have been arrested and charged after police discovered seven dogs locked in the trunk of a car on the Near North Side.

Chicago Police responded to an animal abuse call Friday afternoon in the 0-100 block of East Chestnut Street. When they arrived, they found the seven dogs inside a trunk, according to police news affairs.

Hugo Santa Maria, 28, of California and Vito Stramaglia, 47, of Ohio were each charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty, according to police.

The dogs have since been turned over to Animal Care and Control.
