Man Arrested in Connection With Death of Illinois State Trooper Brooke Jones-Story

Craig Dittmar faces three felony charges in connection with the incident

Illinois State Police have arrested a 55-year-old man whom they say struck and killed Illinois State Trooper Brooke Jones-Story with his truck last month. 

The man, identified as 55-year-old Craig W. Dittmar, was arrested on Thursday afternoon after the Stephenson County State’s Attorney approved felony charges against him in connection with the trooper’s death.

According to police, Jones-Story was inspecting a commercial motor vehicle on U.S. Route 20 on March 28 when a truck, which police say was driven by Dittmar, struck and killed her.

An Illinois State Police trooper was killed Thursday afternoon in a crash on Route 20 near Freeport, the department said. Trina Orlando reports.

Dittmar faces several felony charges, including two counts of Reckless Homicide, a Class 2 felony, and one count of Operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle While Fatigued and causing death. Bond has been set at $250,000, according to state police.

Jones-Story is one of three Illinois State troopers who have been killed in traffic collisions so far this year.
