Thousands March in Chicago, Demanding Protection for Special Counsel in Russia Probe

The march in Chicago was one of dozens held across the United States

Protesters across the country gathered on Thursday, demanding that lawmakers move to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller after the ouster of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

In Chicago, thousands of people gathered and marched to Trump Tower to protest President Donald Trump’s appointment of Matthew Whitaker as acting Attorney General. The protesters say that the move will interfere with Mueller’s investigation into potential Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and that he must be protected and allowed to finish his work.

“It’s pretty obvious. It’s a corrupt situation and we the people (need) to take it back from corruption,” protester Chris Brom said.

The group gathered during rush hour in downtown, and after a brief rally at Daley Plaza, they marched to Trump Tower.

The demonstration was organized by the group Indivisible Chicago, and was one of hundreds of groups that protested across the country.

“We are out here to defend the rule of law. Nobody is above the law, including President Trump,” organizer Marj Halperin said.

Organizers are already planning another rally on Saturday afternoon.
