A suburban Chicago high school teacher accused of having sex with a 14-year-old has been charged in U.S. District Court with the sexual abuse of a minor.
Dayna Chidester was arrested Wednesday by FBI agents for allegedly having sex with the underage boy for several months at her home, in her car and in hotels between September and December 2018.
The 51-year-old Chidester is a former science teacher at Reed-Custer High School in Braidwood. She was free on $1 million bond on sex abuse charges filed in January in Will County. The state charges were dropped Wednesday.
Prosecutors asked during a hearing that Chidester be held without bond. U.S. Magistrate Judge Sidney Schenkier set a detention hearing for Friday afternoon.
Will County authorities say they were alerted in December that a Reed-Custer student had been exchanging texts with Chidester about her sexual relationship with the victim.
It wasn't immediately known if Chidester has legal representation.
