Suburban Stone Park residents are mourning the loss of a longtime business in the community.

The Durango Food Mart at 1651 N Mannheim Road went up in flames shortly before noon on Tuesday.

More than 30 different fire departments were called in to battle the three-alarm blaze. The building also houses four apartments above the store.

Hernan Rivera's family has owned the store for more than 23 years. He says his brother, the manager, was inside the restaurant when the fire broke out.

"The alarm went off, and when they went into the grocery store, it was already full of smoke, it was something that happened very quickly," Rivera said.

Nobody was injured while evacuating the building. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
