A suburban man is facing first degree murder charges after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death inside of her Schaumburg home Saturday morning.

According to authorities, 55-year-old Anthony Prate called 911 at approximately 1:31 a.m. Saturday and said that he and his girlfriend had been involved in an altercation with a knife.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of 38-year-old Margaret Daniel. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the woman’s death a homicide, saying that she had suffered more than 20 cutting injuries.

Prate was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for injuries to his arms and hands. The man was then taken into custody by police.

The Cook County State's Attorney has approved First Degree Murder charges against Prate in connection with the case.
