2 Pregnant Women Shot in Chicago in Less Than 36 Hours

A pregnant woman was injured in a shooting on Chicago’s South Side early Saturday, according to police, the second pregnant woman shot in less than 36 hours of violence across the city.

The most recent shooting occurred around 1:36 a.m. in the 7100 block of South Saint Lawrence Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood, authorities said.

The 24-year-old woman was standing on a front porch when someone in a white sedan pulled up and opened fire, according to police.

She was struck in the right hip and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition, officials said.

Family members said the woman is nine months pregnant, expecting her first child in a matter of days.

Relatives said she was attending a family birthday party at the home where she was shot, adding that they found it sad that she couldn’t even stand outside on a beautiful night.

The victim is the second pregnant woman shot in Chicago over the weekend.

A woman expecting a child was one of four people found dead in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds in the city’s Brighton Park neighborhood Friday night.

She was later identified as 28-year-old Ida Arvizu, authorities said, whose family told investigators she was pregnant at the time of the shooting.

No one is in custody in connection with either incident, according to police, who continue to investigate.
