A female University of Illinois at Chicago student who was found dead inside a car at a parking garage on Saturday after her family reported her missing, is believed to be a victim of foul play, authorities said Sunday.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the victim as Ruth George, 19, of suburban Berwyn.
At about 11:15 a.m., UIC police found George unresponsive in a car parked in the Halsted Street Parking Garage, 760 W. Taylor St., according to university officials.
UIC Police Chief Kevin Booker issued a statement Sunday afternoon saying they "believe that she was the victim of foul play and we have a person of interest in custody."
"Our investigation has determined that Ms. George was alone when she entered the Halsted Street Parking Garage on Nov. 23 at approximately 1:35 a.m. A person of interest entered the garage shortly after Ms. George."
A car believed to be the victims' was towed away from the scene Saturday evening.
UIC police were working with city, state and federal agencies to investigate the death, officials said. UIC issued a public safety advisory Saturday evening in which Chancellor Michael Amiridis offered condolences to the student's family and friends.

The advisory also encouraged students to seek available counseling and support services, if needed.
