Police: Driver Strikes Family After Overdosing on Heroin

Police in the St. Louis suburb of St. Ann say a driver overdosed on heroin and struck a couple and their 2-year-old son, seriously injuring the family members.

The accident happened Tuesday afternoon. Police say the driver, a man in his 20s, fell asleep at the wheel, causing the car to accelerate and strike a couple as they pushed their son in a stroller across the roadway.

The child was thrown from the stroller and the mother landed on her head. The father suffered a leg injury. Details about their conditions were not immediately released.

Paramedics used Narcan, a drug to counteract an overdose, to revive the driver. He was taken into custody.
