It took nearly 50 years, but a member of the Chicago Blackhawks has finally won the Hart Trophy, as Patrick Kane was named the NHL's Most Valuable Player on Wednesday night.
Kane became the first Blackhawks player to win the Hart Trophy since Stan Mikita won the award in the 1967-68 season.
Kane also won the Ted Lindsay Award, given to the league's Most Outstanding Player. That award is voted on by members of the NHL Players' Association. He is the first Blackhawks player to ever win the trophy.
During the 2015-16 season, Kane used a new line combination with Artem Anisimov and Artemi Panarin to launch himself to new heights, racking up 40 goals and 66 assists for the Blackhawks. He led the NHL in points this season, becoming the first American player to ever do so.
Kane beat out Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby and Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn for the award, grabbing 121 first place votes to become the second American-born player to ever win the Hart.
