Attorney General

Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering Running for Attorney General

Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering has thrown her hat into the ring as she will run for Attorney General.

Rotering, the first woman ever elected mayor in Highland Park, will join a crowded field running to replace incumbent Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who will not seek re-election for a new term.

In an email announcing her decision to run, Rotering touted her willingness to take on special interests such as the NRA, and said that she will look to hold companies and organizations accountable for their actions.

“As Attorney General, I will be a powerful advocate, continuing my fight against the NRA to reduce gun violence, and taking on unscrupulous drug makers and online and offshore pharmacies to help curb the opioid epidemic gripping our state,” she said in a statement.

Republican Erika Harold will also be running for the office, with the general election slated for 2018. Numerous Democrats, including State Rep. Scott Drury, State Sen. Kwame Raoul, and COPA Chief Sharon Fairley have all announced that they will be running for the position.
