Gold Coast Boutique Hit in Smash-And-Grab

Front doors of Moncler, at 33 E. Oak St., were smashed in

Thieves smashed into the Moncler store on Oak st. and took racks of expensive coats. Christian Farr reports.

A high-end fashion boutique was burglarized in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood early Monday.

Officers on patrol heard alarms sounding from Moncler, at 33 E. Oak St., shortly before 4 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The front doors of the shop had been smashed, possibly by a vehicle, Greer said. Several racks of coats were stolen, but police didn’t have an estimate on the value of the stolen goods.

Pamela Butler, a doorwoman at a condominium building on the same block as Moncler, said she heard a loud boom that sounded like a car crash about 3:30 a.m.

She said she saw two dark-colored vehicles and a van near the entrance of the shop that then took off east on Oak about five minutes later.

Moncler is a Milan-based clothing brand, according to the company’s official website.

The Best Buy store at The John Hancock Center was hit in similar style last month, a high-end children's boutique on Oak Street lost thousands of dollars of merchandise in June and the Yves Saint Laurent store was hit by thieves in April.
