Activists who want the state of Illinois to raise the minimum wage marched on Michigan Avenue Thursday morning.
Raise Illinois -- made up of low-wage workers and community, labor and religious organizations -- walked down Michigan headed north to Huron.
In a statement, Raise Illinois calls Michigan Avenue the "Not-So-Magnificent-Mile" because businesses located on the strip make "huge profits," while many workers, the group says, only get the minimum wage, $8.25 per hour in Illinois.
Marchers handed out palm cards about the campaign and call on businesses, urging them to pay workers a fair wage.
The group is urging the Illinois legislature to pass Senate Bill 1565, which would raise the state's minimum wage.
