Metra South Shore Line Service to Remain Suspended Friday

Damage to overhead wires was cited as the reason for the suspension of service

Metra customers who use the South Shore Line will have to find another way into and out of the city on Friday, as service will remain suspended, the agency announced.

Service on the South Shore Line was suspended on Wednesday as frigid cold temperatures and wind chills caused line damage to the overhead wires that trains use for electricity on the South Shore and Metra Electric Lines.

Electric Line service is also being impacted by a freight train derailment on Wednesday night that damaged wire supports and a pair of power substations near the Harvey station.

Service on other Metra lines is scheduled to ramp up to full capacity beginning on Friday.
