Person Struck by Metra Train Ahead of Morning Commute Near River Grove

A person was struck by a Metra train early Monday near west suburban River Grove, causing extensive delays on the Milwaukee District / West Line during the morning commute.

Inbound train No. 2202, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 6:13 a.m., was stopped shortly before 5 a.m. after it struck the pedestrian near the River Grove station at Thatcher Avenue and Arnold Street, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

As of 6:30 a.m., all train movement has been halted in the area and delays are expected to be extensive, Metra said.

Reile could not immediately provide information on the condition of the person struck.

North Central Service Train No. 104, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 7:47 a.m., will be accommodating Milwaukee West line passengers between River Grove and Chicago, the transit agency reported.

Passengers were urged to listen to platform announcements for service changes or refer to Rail-Time tracker on metrarail.com for current delay information.

River Grove police declined to provide information about the crash.
