Man Shot as Group Tries to Rob Him in Elmhurst

A man was shot during an attempted robbery in a western suburb Thursday.

Elmhurst police said the shooting happened around 1 p.m. at 257 E. First Street when four men tried to rob the 27-year-old victim in a parking lot.

The victim was shot in the hip and taken to Loyola Medical Center for treatment, police said.

The men fled eastbound in a green Buick LaCrosse.

Witnesses said they heard a pop, before hearing a man fall. The victim told one witness who came to his aid shortly after the shooting that the men asked for his wallet and shot him when he didn’t give it up.

The witness said at least one of the offenders was wearing a mask.

No one was in custody Thursday afternoon but police said an investigation was ongoing.
