The Lake Shore Drive, Columbus Drive and Michigan Avenue double-leaf trunnion bascule bridges, top to bottom, are seen over the Chicago River April 3, 2006 in Chicago, Illinois. The three bridges were built in 1937, 1982 and 1920 respectively.

A pair of bridges over the Chicago River will be closed Wednesday night for maintenance as the city prepares for fall bridge lifts, the Chicago Department of Transportation announced.

According to a press release, the Lake Shore Drive bridge over the Chicago River will close at approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday night and remain closed until 5 a.m. Thursday as required maintenance will be performed by service crews.

Northbound traffic will be diverted onto Wacker Drive, then will be directed onto northbound Columbus, eastbound Illinois, and then back onto Lake Shore Drive, the department said.

Southbound traffic will be diverted onto westbound Grand Avenue, then onto Columbus and Randolph before being allowed back onto Lake Shore Drive.

On the same evening, the Roosevelt Road bridge over the South Branch of the Chicago River will be closed for maintenance.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted onto Canal Street and then onto Harrison and Clark before being allowed back onto Roosevelt. Westbound traffic will be directed onto Clark Street before being moved to Harrison and Canal.

The maintenance comes as the city prepares for a series of bridge lifts later this year to enable boats to be moved from Lake Michigan into their winter storage locations.
