Ex-Trooper Gets 60 Days for Possessing Child Porn

Juan Rodriguez, a 27-year veteran, pleaded guilty to the charges in June

A former Illinois State Police Trooper was sentenced Wednesday to 60 days in DuPage County Jail after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography and official misconduct in June.

Juan Rodriguez, 51, of Glen Ellyn was charged in 2009 after an investigation discovered Rodriguez had viewed child pornography on his department-issued laptop while on duty and had also paid $99 with his credit card to join a child pornography website. Rodriguez had already retired from the force when he was charged.

DuPage County Judge George Bakalis also ordered the 27-year state police veteran to 30 months of sex offender probation in addition to his 60-day sentence of jail time.

Rodriguez will also have to register as a sex offender for life and pay $2,000 in fines.

With his good time credit and days already served in jail, Rodriguez could serve as few as 26 days, according to officials.

He has been ordered to report to jail by 6 p.m. Monday. Officials also say Rodriguez is expected to lose his pension on account of the felony conviction.

Rodriguez has no previous criminal record and faced up to five years in prison.
