Illinois in Line for $1.8 Billion in Federal Funds

Infrastructure targeted by stimulus package

The state of Illinois could be in for a healthy infusion of federal funds targeted towards infrastructure improvements.

According to a House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee report released Thursday, the current version of their stimulus plan includes $1.8 billion for infrastructure investment in Illinois.

Critics of the figures released say there's not enough going towards transit.  Of the $1,808,810,217, only $352,823,530 has been set aside for transit.

Sens. Dick Durbin and Roland Burris may be among legislators who will be pushing for more transit funding when the package makes its way to their chamber.
