Should Dororthy Have Stayed in Oz?

Illinois Professor asks questions of Oz

A philosophy professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale is taking a deeper look at the classic "The Wizard of Oz."

Randall E. Auxier is co-editor of the new book "The Wizard of Oz and Philosophy." It's published by the Open Court Publishing
Company.

The book explores the 1939 movie starring Judy Garland and the book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum.

It asks questions such as, "Should Dorothy have stayed in Oz?"

Auxier said the book also examines a discussion of virtues, using each of Dorothy's friends as examples.

He said there are other philosophical puzzles, such as why water melts the witch, but not Dorothy.
