High Waves Close Part of Lakefront Bike Path in Chicago

High waves and winds shut down portions of the lakefront bike path in Chicago Friday afternoon.

The Chicago Park District confirmed part of the path near North Avenue, Oak Street Beach and Ohio Street Beach were barricaded. Another portion was closed south of Fullerton Avenue close to the lake.

Park district officials said crews would be out salting throughout the day.

How long the barricades would stay up remained unclear.

The area is under a lakeshore flood advisory until 4 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory warned of strong winds bringing waves of up to 14 feet.
