A former DeKalb alderman who recently resigned from office has been charged with stealing from his employer.
The DeKalb Daily Chronicle reports that former Alderman Michael Marquardt was charged Friday with forgery and theft for allegedly taking $9,500 from a local country club where he worked as a manager.
The DeKalb County State's Attorney's Office says Marquardt wrote numerous checks to himself over the last year from the country club's bank account, forging his boss's signature.

Marquardt turned himself in to DeKalb police on Friday. He was released on $500 bond.
If convicted, Marquardt could be sentenced to probation, on up to five years in prison.
Marquardt was first elected alderman in 2015. He resigned earlier this month.
