Oak Brook canceled its fireworks show scheduled for Wednesday and the Fourth of July due to "severe weather and field conditions," police said.
The Oak Brook Police Department tweeted Wednesday morning that both the Taste of Oak Brook and its fireworks show were canceled Wednesday. A rain date had been slated for Thursday, but those were also canceled, police said.
They noted the reason for the cancellation was "due to severe weather and field conditions on the Sports Core Soccer and Polo Fields."
Much of the Chicago area saw scattered showers and storms overnight and into the morning, leaving behind flooding in several locations.
More showers and storms were expected Wednesday afternoon and evening, with areas south and west favored for stronger storms with damaging winds and heavy rain expected.
The storms are expected to fade early, but will return for the holiday.
Periods of scattered showers and storms are expected throughout the Fourth of July Thursday, with heavy rain and strong, damaging winds again possible. Many storms are expected to fade for the evening hours.
