Three people were evacuated from their home in suburban Hickory Hills due to a fire on Christmas night.
The fire started at around 6 p.m. at the house in the 8800 block of Beechnut Road, authorities said.
Neighbors said they heard the blaze before they saw it - with one area resident recalling a loud explosion before the first responders arrived.
Roberts Park firefighters took the lead with help from companies from surrounding areas, authorities said.
The blaze began in the garage, according to fire officials, who said that three people - a couple and their adult son - made it out of the house unharmed.
One person was taken to an area hospital with a health issue that was not related to the fire, authorities said.
The Illinois state fire marshal was called to the scene and the investigation into what caused the flames remained ongoing.
