Inside Look at Chicago Bulls New Court Design

Among the biggest changes, the iconic bull head logo at the center of the court has increased in size by 75 percent and the image of a basketball that was previously behind the logo has been removed

The Chicago Bulls unveiled a brand new court design Wednesday for fans who take the stands this season at the United Center.

Among the biggest changes, the iconic bull head logo at the center of the court has increased in size by 75 percent, according to the team, and the image of a basketball that was previously behind the logo has been removed.

“The ‘CHICAGO BULLS’ text on the endlines has been changed to the font used in the official Bulls logo to make the court design more consistent with the Bulls brand,” the team said in a Wednesday afternoon statement. “The same font has been applied to the ‘Bulls.com’ and the ‘@ChicagoBulls’ text on the north apron of the court.”

Last year, Grantland’s Zach Lowe named the Bull’s court to be the fifth best design in the league, adding that “a lot of people would put [it] at no. 1, and that’s fine,” but two small details are what pushed it down in his ranking.

“The baseline font is huge and round, a little balloon-y — like something out of an animated TV show,” Lowe wrote. “Chicago is the only team to scatter four logos around the court, two on each side.”

Maybe the Bulls will get a higher ranking in this year’s list with the updated font, but Lowe also noted that most NBA teams use only two logos where the Bulls have four, and that’s a feature that didn’t change in the new court design.

The revamped look will be debuted Oct. 6 when the team takes on the Milwaukee Bucks in its first pre-season game of the 2015-16 season.

Other differences fans will notice include the lines on the court that have been changed from red and white to all black “to emphasize the bold colors of the Bulls brand,” and the four stars that represent the city of Chicago flag have been added to the south apron of the court to show pride for the city.
