Dozens of shelters in Chicago, the suburbs and northwest Indiana will waive or discount fees as part of the one-day adoption event.

Is this safe for the animals?
While many shelters will be waiving or discounting fees, the staff at each animal shelter will have complete control over who adopts the animals. Each shelter's adoption policy remains in effect throughout Clear the Shelters.
When should I arrive?
Arrive early. In previous years, long lines have formed outside shelters ahead of the event, filled with people hoping to find their furry best friend.
