Emergency Repairs Shut Down Multiple Lanes on Lake Shore Drive

Multiple lanes were closed on southbound Lake Shore Drive just ahead of Wednesday's evening commute, the Chicago Department of Transportation confirmed.

CDOT learned of buckled pavement due to the high heat near 4600 S. Lake Shore Drive around 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to CDOT spokesperson Mike Claffey. A crew was dispatched to make emergency repairs, with three of the four lanes shut down.

The closures begin around 39th St and extend past 47th St, with major delays reported.

The department is hoping to finish the repairs by 6 p.m., Claffey said, but they are advising drivers to avoid Lake Shore Drive entirely.
