Emanuel Was on Flight From London to Chicago When Air Marshal Responded to ‘Incident'

Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel was on board a flight Wednesday when at least one federal air marshal “responded to an incident,” authorities said—but official details were scant.

The Transportation Security Administration confirmed to NBC 5 the incident—which one social media user described as an intoxicated passenger—on American Airlines flight 87 headed from London Heathrow Airport to O’Hare International Airport. The TSA deferred further inquiries to the FBI. A spokesperson for the FBI would only confirm there was “no public safety issue to report.”

Emanuel was not aware of the incident when it occurred.

American Airlines did not immediately respond to request for comment.

The mayor was in Ireland Tuesday celebrating 20 years with Chicago’s sister city Galway City.
