A 21-year-old man was fatally shot inside a car wash in Chicago's North Side Edgewater neighborhood Thursday afternoon, police said.
Devone Matthews was inside the Express Car Wash, on the 5900 block of North Ridge Avenue, at about 4:45 p.m. when he was shot in the back, authorities said.
A witness said he saw man in all black with a hood and a mask and then heard four or five shots. The witness said he then saw a man scale a fence and run down Paulina Street.
Matthews, of the 6100 block of North Damen, was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m., a spokesperson with the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.
An employee at the car wash said Matthews was a colleague.
