1 in Serious Condition After Mercedes Being Followed by Cops Plows Into CTA Bus, Bursts Into Flames: Cops

A Mercedes burst being followed by police burst into flames Monday after it smashed into a CTA bus on Chicago’s West side, police said.

Police originally saw the dark color Mercedes make an illegal lane change in the 3800 block of West Washington, police said. When officers attempted to pull the car over it fled and got away from the police. Officers later patrolling down Madison saw the same car travelling at a high rate of speed, police said. The Mercedes crashed into the bus in the 400 block of South Kedzie Avenue in the city’s East Garfield Park neighborhood earlier this afternoon, police said.

One person was pulled from the burning Mercedes and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

Another male and female, whose ages were unknown, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The bus was pulling out of a CTA garage at the time of the accident.

The CTA did not immediately respond to request for comment Monday night.

It was unclear if the Mercedes knew it was being pursued by the police at the time of the crash.
