Divvy Bikes to Be Used in Triathlon

The triathlon's so-called "SuperSprint" event will be held on Aug. 23 at Montrose Beach

No bicycle? No problem.

Chicago officials say 100 people will complete the cycling portion of the 2014 Transamerica Chicago Triathlon in August astride city-owned ride-sharing bicycles.

The bright blue bicycles are part of the city's Divvy program, which allows people to rent the rides from hundreds of docking stations. The program was launched last summer with a goal of getting more people to bike to work and to improve quality of life downtown.

The triathlon's so-called "SuperSprint" event will be held on Aug. 23 at Montrose Beach.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel says it's a good way to publicize the bike program, and it'll allow people to try out a triathlon. Officials say more than 900,000 trips have been taken on the Divvy bikes in the past nine months.
