Damen Blue Line Station Reopens

The station closed Oct. 20 as part of $492 million "Your New Blue" program

The Damen station on the Chicago Transit Authority's Blue Line reopened early Monday after two months of renovations.

The Wicker Park neighborhood station reopened at 4 a.m.

To celebrate the re-opening, several nearby businesses planned to offer "welcome back" incentives to commuters. Flash Taco, at 1570 N. Damen, planned to give away free tamales from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day through Wednesday. Glazed and Infused, at 1576 N. Milwaukee, planned to offer a free donut and large coffee to anyone who presents their Ventra card between Monday and Wednesday.

The station closed Oct. 20 as part of the "Your New Blue" program, a 4-year, $492-million project upgrading the O’Hare branch of the Blue Line.

Renovations to the 119-year-old station include new bike racks, granite flooring in the station, and new lighting, benches and signage on the platforms. The station’s historic masonry walls and entrance canopy were also restored.
