Chicago White Sox Place Jose Abreu on DL, Trade Luis Avilan

The Chicago White Sox made a flurry of roster moves on Wednesday, as they placed Jose Abreu on the 10-day disabled list and traded pitcher Luis Avilan.

Abreu, who is hitting .272 with 22 home runs and 78 RBI this season, underwent lower-abdominal surgery this week, and it's unclear whether he will be able to return this season for the White Sox.

Abreu was replaced on the active roster by infielder Jose Rondon, who has 18 home runs and 38 RBI with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights this season. Rondon hit three home runs in an earlier stint with the White Sox this season.

The White Sox also announced that they traded Avilan to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for minor league pitcher Felix Paulino. The hurler has pitched at both the Single-A and Double-A level this season, with a 4-4 record and 74 strikeouts in 31 appearances at the two levels.

To replace Avilan on the 25-man roster, the White Sox recalled pitcher Ryan Burr from Triple-A Charlotte. Burr has never pitched in the big leagues, and has a 2.02 ERA and an 11-7 record in his minor league career.

The White Sox will take on the Minnesota Twins at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field.
