    Tuesday Forecast

Alicia Roman has the latest forecast update for the Chicago area.

    (Published Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018)

Brace yourselves - we're in for a wintry week.

After a white Super Bowl weekend, the Chicago area could see snow every day for seven days in a row.

The work week began with a Winter Weather Advisory on Monday afternoon, bringing snowfall and resulting in more than 600 flight cancellations at O'Hare and Midway airports.

The next chance for snow could come as early as Tuesday evening. Light snow is projected to develop in the far western counties after rush hour and spread east across the rest of the area by late evening.

Whatever snow the area may get Tuesday night will taper off by dawn on Wednesday morning, likely leaving behind somewhere between 1 and 3 inches of accumulation. A few snow showers are still possible in the afternoon in northwest Indiana, and the entire area will remain cold, with highs in the mid- to upper- teens.

We'll see another overcast day and cold day Thursday, marked by even more afternoon or evening snow. Light snow is also possible Friday, with some accumulation likely - though temperatures will be slightly warmer than the previous days with highs in the upper 20s.

Over the weekend, warmer temperatures, even reaching the 30s, could bring a slushier mix, as light snow could mix with light rain late Saturday.

That wintry mix may even continue into Sunday, before clouds break for partial sun in the afternoon.

Some forecasts call for between 8 and 12 inches of accumulation possible by the end of the weekend, though that may change as a series of systems cross the area.
