Chicago to Start Ticketing Drivers Friday for City Stickers

Chicago drivers could end up out of hundreds of dollars if they forget to check their city sticker, as ticketing begins Friday for expired stickers found on vehicles.

The city has eliminated the grace period for city stickers, meaning if your renewal month is June you must buy and display your new sticker by Friday to avoid a fine.

Ending the grace period allows the city to ticket cars immediately if found with an expired sticker that was not removed. If caught with an expired sticker on your vehicle, drivers will be given a $200 ticket for each day until the new sticker is brought in and displayed.

To help a bit, the grace period for late fees will be extended from 15 to 30 days effective Friday. Drivers will be given until July 30 to purchase a sticker without paying an additional $60 late fee.

All city clerk locations will open Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon to help drivers avoid getting ticketed over the holiday weekend.
